Quarter Midget Track
The Quarter Midget Track is used by the American Quarter Midget Association for both practice and competitive events. Eight to 12-year-olds race these scaled down versions of midget racing cars for trophies and prestige. This track now has lights allowing for racing in the cooler evenings. Quarter midget racing, however, focuses more on the family unit as the team, with fathers being the chief mechanic, sons and daughters being the drivers, and mothers being team leaders. It is not uncommon for the grandparents and aunts and uncles to join the team as well, with the entire family traveling together from race to race. To keep the playing field level for all kids, there are divisions based on age, weight and experience level. Safety is the utmost concern and QMA has a sterling safety record going back 50+ years. Kids (and adults) also learn to be part of a bigger team through scheduled work parties at each club. Each club must maintain and improve their racing facility with their own “elbow grease” and fund raising efforts. Participation in work parties is typically required as a condition membership. Each club typically requires $2,000 to $3,000 annually to maintain their facility. 2011 Schedule
