11-16-11 Ocean Sprints to join Ocean Speedway Divisions at Trophy Banquet

The Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo will honor champion Ronnie Day of Salinas at the Ocean Speedway banquet on December 3 at the Coconut Grove Ballroom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. The 2011 Awards Dinner and Casino Night will offer awards to the top-20 drivers in the series points.

Day won twice during the season including his first ever win on Ocean Speedway quarter-mile on June 3 and the prestigious 51st Johnny Key Classic on August 27. Day won the championship over three-time feature winner Tommy Tarlton. Tarlton’s wins included the Tulare Thunderbowl travel race on April 30. Rico Abreu of St. Helena finished third in the points despite going winless and was only 63 points behind Day at the end of the thrilling season.

The top-20 in points will be eligible for a new sprint car giveaway courtesy of Kaeding Performance. One lucky driver will be randomly selected to win the brand-new rolling 2012 Maxim Chassis and body kit. Kurt Nelson won the 2010 giveaway with the only requirement that the winning driver must be present to win.

Tickets are going fast and available now through an order form at www.oceanspeedway.com or by calling (831) 662-9466. A maximum of 400 tickets will be sold with none available at the door. Individual tickets are $50. Cocktails will begin at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m., and awards ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. Casino night games and entertainment will also take place in the ballroom before the awards begin to be handed out.
