12-8-11 Taco Bravo Extends
Deal, Day Wins Kaeding Sprint Gar Giveaway
WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (December 8, 2011) – The Ocean Sprints presented
by Taco Bravo joined the Ocean Speedway banquet on Saturday night at the
Coconut Grove Ballroom at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with 2011
series champion Ronnie Day of Salinas among the honorees. Dennis Woullet
and Taco Bravo announced a two-year extension of their title sponsorship
of the series giving it great stability going into both 2012 and 2013.
Not only was Day honored as champion but he was also the winner of the
Kaeding Sprint Car giveaway including a 2012 Maxim Chassis and body kit.
Any driver within the top-20 in the points that was present was eligible
to win, but Day’s win added to his list of numerous successes throughout
the season.
The 2011 Johnny Key Classic winner was gracious up on stage and thanked
his brother Keith Day for the support to make his championship season
possible. Day won the championship with Tommy Tarlton, Rico Abreu,
Justin Sanders, and Shane Golobic rounding out the top-five in the
standings. Abreu, despite going winless on the season, made a big
impression during his rookie season and was honored as Rookie of the
Year for one of the nation’s premier weekly sprint car classes.
Ocean Speedway promoter John Prentice was thrilled to announce the
extension of the Taco Bravo deal and saw it as an affirmation of the
hard work he has put into the series over the last five years.
“We are extremely grateful for the support Taco Bravo has provided to
both Ocean Speedway and our Ocean Sprints division over the years,”
Prentice said. “This two year extension with Taco Bravo allows us to
continue a commitment to put on great sprint car racing for the fans.”
Prentice has been busy representing Ocean Speedway as a keynote speaker
at the RPM Promoters Workshop in Reno this week. Prentice spoke to the
audience of esteemed promoters from throughout the Western United States
on the sound issues facing both the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds and
the race track. Prentice has been asked to return to the RPM Workshop
during Speedweeks in Daytona in February.
The full 2012 slate of Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo races will
be announced at a later date but race fans can expect another thrilling
season of some of the best winged 360 action anywhere in the nation.
